Problem Statement
A well-known issue that plagues many students in the world, is choosing a specific career path in a multitude of roles. The solution is an interactive personalized quiz app to guide people to choose career paths.
Background
According to YouGov, the BestColleges survey, 61% of 817 college graduates end up taking wrong career paths and would change their career majors if they could go back. The prevalence of the problem of choosing a career path can be clear from the statistic provided above. According to Indeed, the choosing of wrong career paths can lead to negative effects on mental and physical health, underperformance, poor career outlook, unused potential, disengagement, and financial loss(college).
Needs Statement
There are many resources/sites on the internet to help people choose career paths. However, they are huge chunks of data without proper navigation making it harder for young adults to spare time on. Onetonline.org is one such resource; while wealthy in terms of statistics and more, they are just a wall of text with a hard-to-navigate design.
Objective
The solution/proposal is an interactive personal quiz with game-like elements that guide people by asking questions to help them choose a career path fit for them while also providing a wealth of statistics. This proposal seeks to provide a trove of information to make this decision-making process a less stressful and/or fun process. This proposal will be an alternative for those who often find reading monotonous text discouraging but are intrigued by its contents.
- TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This is a general flowchart of the API of one of the courses of interest that is Digital and Traditional Artistry Paths in the career app.

The app first based on some personality questions decides the specific course of interest that could match the person’s personality and skill. This will be followed by the questions shown above to guide the person to a specific job/career in that course of interest. At the end of coming to a career path, there will be general statistics and information about that specific career path in the present time to give a better view of that career contemporarily like growth, salary, skill requirements, number of jobs, and so on.
Process
The first step is deciding the layout/design of the game elements to add. The app name, animations, color scheme, and test device are other important parts of the design. Questions and answers are the core part of this career app, so deciding which questions and answers to make is another crucial part of the process.
The second step is coding them which will be taken care of by the programmers. This will follow testing and debugging; finally, resulting in the publishing of the app.
The final step of the process that will have to be followed up every time is the maintenance of the app and broadening the career path results from the quiz along with info related to them.
Cost/Time/Material
This innovation will be a relatively inexpensive endeavor, given the services it will provide. However, since we will keep our users engaged to deliver on this promise of a stress-free and fun process, we will fund certain aspects of the app more extensively. The rough cost for this application is broken down as follows: functions, platform and platform versions, integration, and maintenance. First, starting with the cheapest stage, the cost of research into the functions and design of this app ranges from $5,000 to $10,000. The UI/design of the career app is what sets it apart from wordy websites that provide a similar service. As such most of the budget should be dedicated to it. It is estimated that an app with a robust and engaging user interface costs $25,000 to $ $50,000 to design. Next is the development stage. This takes into account the labor needed, platforms, and more. Based on certain apps with a similar development, this is estimated to cost more than $25,000. Other expenses that need to be taken into account are personnel, platform integration, platform fees, and maintenance. Those are the most flexible part of the budget, but overall, at least $50,000 should be reserved. The total cost falls within the expected expense for a complex application(Dogtiev, 2021).
